Many breast cancer survivors fight hair loss along with cancer. According to the American Cancer Institute over 3 million women have survived or are living in with breast cancer in the United States. I wanted to use Breast Cancer Awareness Month as an opportunity to discuss options for women managing hair loss.

Don't expect Rihanna color results at home
Hair color junkies on a budget often turn to at-home color. Some clients believe that because you can buy it box at Walgreens that there are no risks. Others may feel more relaxed when they get advice from the beauty supply store. As a salon professional, I recommend that you leave the chemicals to professionals.
Many clients get frustrated when at-home color efforts come out not quite as great as expected. You wonder why Rihanna's color looks so luxurious and brilliant. Well, she most likely visited a professional stylist that is an expert in color. Realistically, you should not expect the same results with non-professional products.

Keratin treatments may be good option against frizz

| Get sleek with keratin treatment |
Are you curious about the hype behind the keratin straightening treatments but worry about putting your hair at risk? It is easy for many women to get caught up in what they think is hot. As a trichologist, you know that I only tell you what is healthy for your hair. I wanted to share with you why I have begun to recommend keratin treatments for some of my clients who want help to maintain a sleek frizz-free look.
After testing a number of products, I chose the Simply Smooth Keratin line that has a very low odor and has published testing results that show its formaldehyde level. The testing shows that it is certified “formaldehyde-free” (less than FDA recommended amount of 0.20%). As with using any new product, the results will vary by client but I have had some clients leave very satisfied with the results.
Many of my natural hair clients, who opt to wear their hair straight, discover that it takes more work than they expected to maintain the same look. If you are constantly relying on heating appliances to avoid chemicals, you can still be putting undue stress on your hair. When done by a qualified professional, the keratin treatment can be an alternative to permanently altering the hair texture.
Before offering the product at Healthy Hair Salon, I wanted to make sure that I did extensive research to protect my clients (and me). You probably have read some of negative press about a number of products on the market that contain high amounts of formaldehyde, like the Brazilian Blowout. Those reports concern me, too.

Besides serving as a hair straightener, keratin (a form of protein) coats the hair cuticle to reduce breakage. You may have noticed that natural hair can be damaged, just as relaxed hair can. The keratin treatment can help with split ends if you choose to wear your hair natural.
The Keratin treatment is great for clients who:
- Want to combat frizz to manage natural curl pattern. If your goal is simply to make your hair more manageable, then this may be an option for you.
- Are willing to use the recommended at-home care products. The results will vary by hair texture and also your commitment to use the appropriate post-treatment products.
You should not try the Keratin treatment if you:
- Will have trouble following the post-treatment directions. Before you leave the salon, I make sure my clients know the activities that will jeopardize the results.
- Expect the same result as a relaxer. If you have coarse 4b hair, you should not expect the same degree of straightness as a relaxer.
Finally, I recommend that you do your own personal research about the keratin treatments. Do not allow service providers that have not been properly trained to handle new chemical products. I believe that education is key to preserve the health of your scalp and hair.

Hair Entensions
What a day of blessing. I started out with a full head of extension to do, lashes and 2 treatments for hair breakage. You should always know the way I serve my client when it comes to extensions, the service will last about 3 months and their hair still grow and stay healthy. I wanted her to share her story with everyone; she said, she would write a review to tell her story. Her hair was so beautiful and natural looking, most extension you will see show the start and ends with all the humps and bumps. The hair looked so nice that one of my clients that works out 5 days a week ask how could she ware the style and get are hair to grow like that, believe me it always happen that way. A client sees how the service was done, hears the results and wants the same. There are so many extensions today and many of them are cause hair breakage or hair loss. It the way the service is done. Extensions are to enhance your look or help your hair to grow. When you are looking into get hair extension the price should cost about $225.00 to $375.00 for a full head, depending on the extension placement that is being done. This may sound like a lot, but when you find a stylist that charge for her technique most likely she has been train to give a good service that want break your hair. This doesn't include other services like a relaxer or color. When you see a lot of your hair on the floor, thin edges, thin hair or look like your hair has spit ends all over; the service is causing hair breakage or loss, but remembers there will be some hair because it stayed braided for a long time. The best extension I believe to grow your hair is the braiding technique done by a trained stylist. Some stylist charge $150.00 for the service and you will need to redo the extension in 6 weeks, this is a way stylist are able to get a client to try the service for less, but clients are still paying the same price, as it would be for a service that last for 2 ½ to 3 months for extension. One of the big different is the client loss hair, because it is done quick and the way the foundation is set, the train stylist is making sure she takes care of the clients hair to grow, because she has to take her time doing the service. Even when a stylist charge for her technique you still have to make sure she has good training skill in this area. One of the best ways to find out is ask the clients that are getting the services, what do they think? Is their hair growing, is it thin. A good extension stylist will be able to do any texture of hair and have picture to show. There are so many extension, so don't try to get a quick fits, you will pay for it later, with money or hair loss, some time both. The summer is a good time to try extensions when you are working out. If you will like to try my service use this coupon code exten10 and get $25.00 off your service of 4 tracks or more.

This weekend was really pulling it all together at the clinic. I wanted to make a video to let everyone know of the great results that clients are having at the trichology clinic. You will hear from clients that have had scalp disorders and hair loss. This weekend was also a Birthday for me. I enjoyed the day and was happy to share it with one of my dear friend, Shirley's birthday is today also ( Tue.), I know that she is having a great time also. Next month our Newsletter will be related to Dry Scalp and Flakes. One of the reason I wanted to talk about dry scalp and flakes is because I have had a number of clients come in for this disorder this month. It’s going to be a great subject and enlightening for many people. Well see you next week.
